There were trees
Orchards of peach trees
Aligned like soldiers carrying
Majestic orange baubles
There were trees
Now roads of black
And cars emitting
No purity
There were trees
And now stand buildings and
Poles, tall, lean, towering
Poking into the purity high above
There were trees
Where there are large
Earth-wrecking monsters
Green earth to metal and glass
But here
In a gently nurtured pocket of
Love and hope
Grow some new seeds
Growing bright young minds
Education, future bloom bright
There are seeds
And growing trees
Pure
Clear
Crystal
Harmless
Trickling in a quiet brook
Rays of sunlight scattering
Leaves swirling
Twirling
Frozen in lemonade
Cooling on a sweltering day
The glass is sweating
Dripping
Spurting from the sprinklers
In the patch of beautiful rain
Little feet dancing
Laughing
The morning dew
Bejeweling spiders webs
On petals, delicately resting
Sleeping
Drizzles invite teenagers
With arms open wide
Barefoot frolicking
Playing
Drop
Sprinkle
Downpour
Flood
Submerging homes beneath murk
Torrents snatching livelihoods
Dreams shredded by the unrelenting
soft glow of the sun
before it goes to bed
shimmer of the sea
ripples winking in the light
shine of thine eyes
laughter lives there
slow is the swing
only rocking, feel the beat
song of the birds
early morn they greet
sips of cool nectar
glide over thirsty tongues
sweet, fresh fragrances
waft among the lush
silent breeze swirls
tendrils cool over sweat
summer's here
create the fun
soft glow of the sun
before it goes to bed
shimmer of the sea
ripples winking in the light
shine of thine eyes
laughter lives there
slow is the swing

When the little girl woke up, she found cookies in her shoes.
It was December 6, St. Nicholas Day, her parents told her. Thats the day when Santa comes and takes your Christmas list and leaves you cookies if you were good, a switch if you were bad. Santa left her cookies! The little girl squealed in delight, in excitement.
Do you want to try one, her mother asked. The little girl put one in her mouth. She chewed. She swallowed. She smiled. It was the best thing she had ever eaten in her life.
You can eat another one, her father said. &
